LEARN MOREThe European Paratroopers Honor Guard is a voluntary uniformed unit specially designated for guard of honour duty. The Honor Guard is dedicated to represent the Associacion at ceremonial events such as Remembrance Day, graduations, members weddings, funerals and memorials. The Unit was formed in October 2016. It is comprised of European Paratroopers senior members who wear the issued number one dress uniform of the EPA. With an initial 'order of dress' modeled on the WWII Paratroopers Honour Guard, the European Paratroopers Honour Guard's first events included a member funeral and Remembrance Day parade, then gradually became more involved in protocol and additional ceremonial events the EPA has been asked to attend. To maintain good standing within the Unit and to keep the level of drill to the highest standard members are expected to attend events and practices different times during the year. Foot drill training, based on the Italian Armed Forces drill and protocol, is provided by a Unit drill commander. Organization of events is managed by a Unit member, while equipment issues and general administrative functions are handled by a third volunteer. The European Paratroopers Honor Guard Unit was recently issued new ceremonial uniform which brings the Unit into line with best practices of other military ceremonial units. In 2016, the European Paratroopers Honor Guard was granted the privilege and honour of being presented “Colours” by the EPA President Giulio Festa. The Colour is consecrated and, as such, is treated with honour at all times. It should be saluted and given appropriate ‘compliments’ by all uniform members. The Colour is carried by an Officer and symbolically protected by the 'Colour Guard' or 'Escort to the Colours' that is is composed by two more EPA officers who are armed with Mauser K98 rifles and fixed bayonets.

The Honor Guard is considered to be a very prestigious unit in the EPA. Enrolment in the Honor Guard is on voluntary basis, applicants must undergo thorough a medical examination and background investigation. They have to buy their own uniforms and personal equipment, they receive no pay and their work is completely voluntary, so they must be ready to finance themselves. To maintain good standing within the Unit, members are expected to attend a minimum of three practices and three events per year. The applicants have to pass a selection process. Upon successful completion of selection they must join a special training programme and pass all the requirements.
NOTE: The enrolment to the Honor Guard is open only to our members. You must be a current member of European Paratroopers Association - i.e. have paid your annual EPA membership fee.
